10. Compunction – now this is a strange one, because out of all the feelings reserved to close ones, Benedict plays Compunction, a form of regret. And it fits so well that I wonder if he even knows the level of accuracy with which he plays Sherlock. Some other feeling, like tenderness, love, or whatever would have been so false to identify him with. But because Sherlock is often oblivious to “social etiquette”, he does and say inappropriate things and sometimes, for John and Molly, he feels he did the wrong thing. But hey, he does it anyway, that’s why is Compunction and not regret, or retribution or something.
